The Foundation for Parliamentarism and Participatory Democracy of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for the Rule of Law and European Values (CRoLEV) at the School of Law of the University of Central Lancashire in Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus) co-organised a Roundtable presentation and discussion on ‘The Rule of Law and Democratic Values in Cyprus and Europe’. The event was held on Friday 23rd May 2025, at the premises of the Foundation in Nicosia (https://www.foundation.cy/).

The event began with a Welcome Address by Dr. Dionysos Alexiou, Executive Director, Foundation for Parliamentarism and Participatory Democracy of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus. Following the welcome address, the CRoLEV team, Prof. Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Dr Andreas Marcou and Dr Katerina Kalaitzaki, presented the CRoLEV findings on the Rule of Law and Democratic Values in Cyprus and Europe. The presentations focused on the empirical data collected and analysed by CRoLEV from surveys and research conducted on Civic Engagement and on Democratic Governance in Cyprus and Europe. These findings stemmed from a comprehensive and participatory methodology conducted between 2023 and 2025, which resulted in the publication of multiple reports and recommendations on the state of the Rule of Law and European values in Cyprus and Europe, all available on the CRoLEV Dashboard https://crolev.eu/dashboard/ and the CRoLEV Impact Assessment and Recommendations https://crolev.eu/impact-assessment-and-recommendations/

Summaries of the results are also available in the form of infographics presented on the day, specifically for Cyprus https://crolev.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/CRoLEV-Infographic-Cyprus-Reviewed_Mar22.pdf and for the EU and wider Europe https://crolev.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/CRoLEV-Infographic-EU-Reviewed_Mar24.pdf

Subsequently, a discussion session followed on the Rule of Law and Democratic Values in Cyprus and Europe with a range of stakeholders including civil society representatives as well as lawmakers of the Republic of Cyprus. The Roundtable was successfully concluded, bringing together distinguished guests, policymakers, academics, civil society representatives, and students fostering valuable and insightful discussions.

CRoLEV would like to thank the Foundation for Parliamentarism and Participatory Democracy of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus and all participants of the day.
