Formation of the Six-Month Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026 – 29th of July 2025
CRoLEV had the pleasure and honour of participating in the dialogue on the “Formation of the Six-Month Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026”, held on the 29th of July at the Presidential Palace.
The Centre contributed to the discussion during the third workshop, which focused on the Rule of Law, Democracy, and Human Rights. The dialogue brought together representatives of economic, social, and political bodies, with the contribution of the competent Ministries and Deputy Ministries.
During the workshop the thematic areas that should be given particular emphasis during the Cyprus Presidency were discussed, as well as how they are expected to contribute positively to the achievements of the EU’s strategic objectives. These included: the strengthening the Rule of Law and Justice through the digitalisation of courts and reduction of the time for the administration of justice, and the independence and transparency of judicial authorities. Within the sphere of equality and Equal opportunities, the Implementation of the Pay Transparency Directive was discussed and the strengthening of gender equality policies and LGBTQ+ rights. In relation to social inclusion and human rights, the protection of the rights of children and persons with disabilities were emphasised.
Other European policies/initiatives were also considered to be promoted in the Council such as the Strengthening the Rule of Law Mechanism by interlinking with EU financial instruments, the European Media Freedom Act, other EU Equality Strategies (gender, LGBTQI+, disability) and the fighting of disinformation and enhancing transparency on social media.
Discussions will continue until the completion of preparations and the publication of the six-month programme in December 2025.
