Course on “Responding to Conflict Related Sexual Violence (CRSV):
International Criminal Law and Transitional Justice Approaches”

 

The School of Law of UCLan Cyprus is pleased to announce the online intensive course on “Conflict Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) and Transitional Justice Mechanisms” in the CRoLEV Intensive Course Series entitled “The Rule of Law and European Values in the modern ages”.


This comprehensive 10-hour course is designed to educate participants about conflict-related sexual violence and how it has been addressed within the frameworks of international humanitarian law and transitional justice mechanisms. The course aims to acquaint participants with key topics, including Women, Peace, and Security Resolutions, international criminal law documents, tribunal rulings from the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and International Criminal Court (ICC), as well as essential transitional justice approaches used to respond to this crime.

Throughout the course, participants will gain insights into feminist and queer legal perspectives, offering a nuanced understanding of the subject. The course will also provide critical analysis and discussions to encourage participants to engage deeply with the material.
The titles of the sessions are the following:
• The definition, patterns and root causes of CRSV
• The Women, Peace and Security Resolutions: Introduction, evolution and relevance to CRSV
• The development of international criminal law in dealing with CRSV
• The landmark case decisions from ICTY, ICTR and ICC
• Transitional justice mechanisms and CRSV
