Civil Dialogue with the Polish Delegation in charge of the Polish EU Presidency in 2025 and Lessons in view of the Cyprus EU Presidency – PRESS RELEASE
Poland and Cyprus are part of the same Trio of Presidencies, with Poland that has already completed its mission in June 2025 and Cyprus starting in January 2026. On the 9th of October 2025, a Civil Dialogue meeting was organised in the premises of the EU House, by the Centre of Excellence for the Rule of Law and European Values (CRoLEV) at UCLan Cyprus, Oxygen for Democracy and the Centre for the Advancement of Research and Development in Educational Technology (CARDET), together with the Embassy of Poland in Cyprus. During the Civil dialogue the role of Presidency of the Council of the European Union was discussed, the take aways of the Polish EU Presidency were presented, while emphasis was given on inspirations and lessons in the run up to the Cyprus EU Presidency.
The Director of the Office for the Polish Presidency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Magdalena Bogdziewicz, and the Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Marek Szczepanowski, presented the challenges and outcomes of the Polish Presidency which was carried out under the “Security, Europe” motto and answered the questions from the audience.
The event was attended by students, academics, representatives of civil society organisations, and citizens interested in the work and impact of the European Union. Topics such as militarisation of Europe, instrumentalization of migration, misinformation, involvement of young people, were discussed.

Professor Stephanie Laulhe-Shaelou, Head of the School of Law at UCLan Cyprus and Director of CroLEV, moderated the event and delivered the introduction. Dr. Nicholas Kyriakides, Vice-President of Oxygen for Democracy, and Ms Fotini Socratous, Project Manager at the Center for the Advancement of Research and Development in Educational Technology (CARDET), presented conclusions and recommendations.
