The School of Law of UCLan Cyprus and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for the Rule of Law and European Values (CRoLEV) are pleased to invite contributions for the creation of a peer-reviewed edited volume entitled ‘Rule of Law and European Values in Turbulent Times’. In addition to these submissions, the edited volume will also contain chapters from invited contributors. The volume will be edited by Professor Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Professor of European Law and Reform Head, School of Law, UCLan Cyprus and CRoLEV Director and Dr Andreas Marcou, Lecturer in EU Law and Theory, School of Law, UCLan Cyprus and CRoLEV Chief Researcher.
The Edited Volume is an important output of CRoLEV which will be submitted for publication to Springer Publishing by the end of the project in February 2025. The book will be published in print (Hardcover edition) as well as an eBook. It is anticipated that the eBook will be part of Springer eBook packages distributed to libraries worldwide. Every effort will be made to grant to the publication free open access, further maximising visibility and impact. All manuscripts will undergo double peer-reviewed process under the supervision of the CRoLEV Editorial Board. The Editorial Board consists of a diverse team of experts specialising in various areas relating to the rule of law and European values. You can meet our editorial board here.
Submissions
The democratic and rule of law backsliding occurring across Europe in the last years puts the entire European project under threat. Attacks on the rule of law, democracy, human rights, equality, and nondiscrimination, observed in many European countries, warrant decisive responses. The edited volume seeks to contribute to this timely debate by analysing specific aspects associated with the current state of the rule of law and European values across the Union, and the various threats undermining them, from a renewed and intertwined perspective. CRoLEV has already undertaken work in analysing specific aspects of the rule of law which you can view here. In particular, we have identified specific pillars that relate to the rule of law and which, in our view, warrant further exploration, which you can view here.
